So I was very lucky to receive a letter in the post last week (and some vouchers) to let me know I had been selected as a Morrisons Mum!
Immediately I started flicking through our recipe books looking for inspiration of what to buy and make!
I eventually decided to do some baking, a banana loaf, make a lovely salad (Caesar, my husbands favorite) and roast us a joint of beef for a roast dinner.
As most of you will know I am also currently nearing my due date, we thought it would be good to get some snacks in for our hospital bag!
So Friday night after my husband finished work off we went to Morrisons.
One of my personal favorite things about Morrisons is their market street, lots of lovely fresh produce, from cheese to fresh pizza and their wonderful butchers counter with locally sourced meat.
Here we picked up a beef topside joint for our roast dinner, it was surprisingly cheap (£5.94!!) and from welsh cattle so locally sourced.
Morrisons have decided to reduce the prices on 1000’s of items and this is their handy little way of letting you know what they have reduced the prices on!
We bought lots of their own brand cereal (cereal is my one big pregnancy craving, I could actually live of it!) and I’ve been testing it out this week, its amazing quality and you truly would not know the difference between the Morrisons brand and the more expensive brands (and I would, after all I am a cereal connoisseur), the only difference is the price, with some boxes being less than half the price of the branded cereal!
We also bought the things we needed to make our Caesar salad, I was so surprised at how cheap the fruit and veg was with offers such as 3 items for £1.50! We also picked up Morrisons own brand Caesar salad dressing (which was “I’M cheaper!”) and Morrisons own brand croutons (as I am too lazy to make them from scratch, yes I’m a sucker for convenience!).
We also picked up lots of lovely food, and our trolley was soon full to the brim! There is so much to choose from!
Then was the fun bit (not really!!), unpacking.
So our cupboards, fridge and freezer were now full!
Banana Loaf Recipe
I’m going to start with my banana loaf recipe, because everyone loves cake right? And because it has banana in it, it’s surely one of your 5 a day? Which makes it healthy!
So here’s what you will need;
100g of softened butter (unsalted)
175g of caster sugar
2 large eggs
2 ripe bananas (mashed)
225g of self raising flour
1 tsp of baking powder
2 tbsp of milk
1. Preheat your oven to 180C/fan 160C/Gas 4.
2. Grease and line a 2lb loaf tin (I bought my loaf tin on my shop for £2!).
3. Measure out all your ingredients into a bowl:
4. Mix until well blended (I used our hand blended, a lot easier and quicker than by hand). Until it looks like this;
5. Pop it into your greased and lined tin.
6. Bake for 1 hour until well risen and golden brown. You can pop a knife in the middle and it should come out clean when its done.
7. Leave to cool for a few minutes in the tin then turn out onto a cooling rack.
8. Try and resist eating it till its cool!
A full loaf costs around £1.54 to make and would easily serve 6 to 8 people (which works out as 25p a serving!) as cake as desert and you could even warm it up and add custard (yum yum).
